Coastal Management Research Network (COMARE Net)

Research:

Dissemination, promotion and adoption of research aimed at improving all aspects of coastal management in the Caribbean

Purpose:

To promote and institutionalise improved integrated coastal management practices and policies in the Caribbean. COMARE Net facilitates electronic and physical exchanges of information and promotes the integration of coastal management research into national and regional coastal policy.

Activities:

  • Operation of a coastal management research network web page

  • Links to national, regional and international coastal research

  • Dissemination of coastal project products and promotion of their use

  • Creation of channels for communication between coastal use groups

  • Exchange of information by various media throughout the network

  • Meeting to report on and promote coastal management research

  • Compilation and distribution of UWI coastal research outputs

  • Preparation of policy briefs on coastal management research

  • Promotion of research relationships between UWI and other bodies

Partners:

COMARE Net is an outreach initiative of applied science managed by the Centre for Resource Management and Environmental Studies (CERMES), Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, UWI Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. It welcomes partners involved in coastal management from around the world.

Initial grant from the UK Department for International Development (DFID) – Natural Resources Systems Programme (NRSP). Supported now by UWI.

Membership

Anyone or any organization that conducts or uses coastal management research in the wider Caribbean is encouraged to join COMARE Net. There is no cost to joining. Just send an email to the network manager indicating your affiliation, interests and expertise. You will then receive further information.
